Congress Demands Transparency in US and EU Trade Deals

The Congress party has called upon the Modi government to ensure transparency by presenting the texts of the trade deals with the EU and US before Parliament. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the deals, suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's negotiation tactics have left India vulnerable.

Ramesh highlighted President Trump's claims that India agreed to reduce tariffs, thus completely opening its market to the US. The Congress has questioned how the interests of Indian farmers and industries are being protected and called for these details to be discussed in Parliamentary sessions.

Amidst the trade negotiations, the Congress party also expressed concerns about changes in India's oil import strategy, potentially shifting away from Russia to the US and Venezuela, asking if the Modi government accepted such terms without Parliamentary approval.
