Costa Rican Activist Denounces Allegations of Assassination Plot

A Costa Rican activist has fervently denied allegations suggesting she plotted to assassinate President Rodrigo Chaves. Stella Chinchilla, the activist and vice president of the Friends for Peace Center, claims the accusations are politically motivated and a result of her vocal criticism against the government.

Chinchilla appeared before the Public Ministry to address screenshots purportedly implicating her in the plot. She insists the evidence is fabricated and that her opposition to Chaves' administration made her a target. She criticized the government and aligned media for disseminating what she claims is fake information.

The accusations emerged as President Chaves hosted Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele in Costa Rica. Amidst growing security concerns attributed to drug-related violence, Chaves looks to incorporate Bukele's heavy-handed tactics against gangs, including building a new prison similar to El Salvador's infamous one.
