Karnataka's Housing Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan launched a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, pointing out the BJP's failure to deliver on housing promises while praising the current Congress-led government for its commitment to advancing housing projects despite financial limitations.
The Minister highlighted the efforts made during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's previous tenure when over one lakh houses were constructed, contrasting this with the BJP's zero-housing output during its rule. According to Khan, Siddaramaiah has committed to distributing funds for various projects by December 2026, focusing on welfare initiatives amid a tight budget.
In a push to uplift the underprivileged, Khan announced plans to provide 36,000 houses this year, with a target of 40,000 in sight. Additionally, the recent Cabinet decision to increase the housing scheme quota for minority communities to 15% marks an important policy shift, aligning with the state's ambitions to develop futuristic urban projects such as KWIN City and SWIFT City.
