The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) has strategically established a core committee for the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) as part of an effort to accelerate decision-making before crucial upcoming electoral contests. The move comes with local body elections on the horizon this year and the state assembly poll due in May 2026.

The newly formed core committee, comprising 17 members and including veteran leaders like A K Antony, replaces the more cumbersome political affairs committee in the state. The list was officially announced by AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal in Delhi. The committee will be steered by Deepa Dasmunshi, AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala.

The decision for this strategic overhaul was made after a high-level meeting in Delhi, led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, alongside senior KPCC leaders. This new structure aims at addressing internal disputes and fostering unity within the party as it gears up for the elections.
