Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, has called for the inclusion of a caste data column in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav argues that collecting such data is crucial for ensuring social justice and effective policy formulation.
During a press briefing at the party's headquarters, Yadav highlighted the opportunity presented by the SIR exercise, which involves government officials visiting households to verify voter details. He suggested that adding a column for caste data is a simple step that could bring substantial benefits.
Yadav further stated that this data would assist in crafting future public policies aimed at promoting economic and social equality. Citing the contributions of B R Ambedkar and the Mandal Commission, he expressed hope that the government would adopt this proposal to help create a state based on social justice.
