D66's Historic Win: Rob Jetten Set to Make History as Youngest Dutch PM
The D66 party is projected to win the Dutch national election, paving the way for Rob Jetten to become the Netherlands' youngest and first openly gay prime minister. Exit polls suggest D66 will secure 27 seats, defeating Geert Wilders' far-right Freedom Party, as they campaign for a positive change.
The centrist D66 party is on track to win the Dutch national election, according to an exit poll released on Wednesday. This victory could position Rob Jetten as the Netherlands' youngest and first openly gay prime minister.
The exit poll indicates that D66 is expected to secure 27 seats in the 150-seat lower house of parliament, surpassing far-right leader Geert Wilders' Freedom Party, which is projected to win 25 seats. However, it's important to note that the poll has a margin of error of up to three seats.
Rob Jetten, aged 38, has seen a significant rise in popularity recently, rooted in his optimistic campaign message that promises an alternative to the political climate previously dominated by Wilders. Major parties have excluded any coalition with Wilders' nationalist, anti-immigration PVV party, marking a shift in Dutch politics.
