Slovakia is likely to support the EU's 19th sanctions package against Russia if its demands are considered during a summit of EU leaders. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico mentioned his tentative agreement with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, depending on summit conclusions.
Slovakia is on the verge of supporting the European Union's proposed 19th sanctions against Russia, contingent on the inclusion of its governmental demands in this week's EU leaders' summit conclusions, as confirmed by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
In a meeting with a parliamentary committee ahead of the summit, Fico announced his intention to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, potentially paving the way for a joint stance on the sanctions package.
Fico indicated that, pending satisfactory revision of the summit's conclusions, he is likely to convey Slovakia's agreement to Chancellor Merz, marking a critical step towards the sanctions' approval.
