Rahul Gandhi has urged decisive action following the death of Haryana police officer Y Puran Kumar, highlighting concerns around caste-based discrimination. Addressing the media after visiting Kumar's family, Gandhi implored Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to arrest those responsible.
Kumar, who was found dead at his Chandigarh residence, allegedly faced consistent discrimination and harassment. Before his death, Kumar accused eight senior officers of various abuses. In response, the government placed the state's DGP Shatrujeet Kapur on leave and transferred former Rohtak superintendent of police Narendra Bijarniya.
Gandhi stressed the incident as indicative of a broader pattern affecting Dalits nationwide, urging the government to fulfill promises of a fair investigation. The alleged harassment underscored a history of discrimination aimed at undermining Kumar's career, raising crucial questions about societal attitudes toward Dalits.
