Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, on the first day of his three-day visit to Germany, held an interaction with the Indian community in Berlin, lauding the nearly 300,000-strong Indian diaspora for acting as a vital bridge between India and Germany. The engagement underscored India's growing global stature and the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations.

Addressing a diverse gathering of professionals from sectors including business, technology, healthcare, academia, and the arts, the Raksha Mantri described the diaspora as one of the strongest pillars of India-Germany relations.

Diaspora as a Strategic Bridge

Shri Rajnath Singh praised the Indian community for their contributions across multiple domains, stating that their achievements have strengthened India's image globally while also fostering closer ties with Germany.

"You are not just residents here—you are ambassadors of India's culture, values, and progress," he said, encouraging them to actively promote India's perspective on global platforms and deepen bilateral economic engagement.

India's Voice Now Heard Globally

Highlighting India's evolving global role, the Defence Minister emphasized that the country's voice now commands greater attention on the international stage.

"Earlier, India's words at international fora were not heeded; today, the world listens carefully," he remarked, attributing this shift to India's consistent diplomatic engagement and growing economic and strategic influence.

75 Years of India-Germany Diplomatic Relations

The interaction gains added significance as 2026 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Germany. Shri Rajnath Singh described the partnership as one built on trust, mutual respect, and shared democratic values.

He urged members of the diaspora to play an active role in further strengthening this relationship, while remaining connected to their cultural roots.

Assurance of Government Support

Reaffirming the government's commitment to Indians abroad, the Raksha Mantri assured continued support and protection for Indian citizens living overseas.

"The Government of India stands firmly with its diaspora across the world," he said, emphasizing that their safety, welfare, and engagement remain a priority.

Showcasing India's Growth Story

During the interaction, Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted India's rapid transformation across key sectors, pointing to:

  • Expanding infrastructure development

  • A thriving start-up ecosystem

  • Advances in space technology

  • Leadership in digital innovation

He reiterated that the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat is focused on strengthening domestic capabilities, boosting manufacturing, and reducing dependence on imports, while positioning India as a global hub for innovation and production.

A Warm Welcome Reflecting Strong Ties

Describing the interaction as a "special moment," the Defence Minister expressed gratitude to the Indian community for their enthusiastic participation despite professional commitments. He noted that the warm reception extended to him and his delegation reflects the strong and growing partnership between India and Germany.

Strengthening People-to-People Connect

The Berlin interaction highlights the importance of people-to-people ties in diplomacy, particularly as India seeks to expand its global footprint through economic, technological, and cultural engagement.

As India and Germany celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the role of the Indian diaspora continues to be central in shaping the future of bilateral cooperation—serving as a dynamic link between two major economies and democratic partners.
