Opposition Parties' Stance on Women's Reservation Act Draws Criticism

The Legislative Assembly's recent vote against the Women's Reservation Act has ignited criticism, particularly from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who denounced opposition parties for their 'anti-women' stand.
According to Gupta, these parties have betrayed women by rejecting a bill intended to enhance democratic participation and societal self-respect through increased representation for women in the Lok Sabha.
With references to interlocutions on delimitation and regional interests by opposition factions, Gupta noted that such discussions obscure the longstanding pursuit for women's legislative representation, citing that the bill's defeat serves to expose opposition parties' hesitance to genuinely advance gender equality.
