In London, British counter-terrorism police are probing an arson attack that occurred on Friday night in an area home to a large Jewish community. Although not classified as a terrorist act, the incident resembles previous hate crimes targeting the community.
Friday’s attack involved a man who reportedly placed a bag containing bottles filled with fluid next to a row of shops and attempted to ignite them. Fortunately, the bottles did not fully ignite, and the perpetrator fled. Similarities with earlier incidents prompted counter-terrorism officers to take charge of the investigation.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams acknowledged the community's fears and assured increased police patrols, including armed officers, to ensure public safety and order in the affected district.
