In a bid to support Hungary's pursuit of democratic reforms, Norway has pledged financial assistance following the recent election win of opposition leader Peter Magyar. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere emphasized Norway's commitment to bolster Hungary's ambitions for a restored democracy.
Prime Minister Stoere, in his official statement, confirmed a dialogue with newly elected Prime Minister Magyar. Both leaders are focused on facilitating negotiations concerning the reallocation of European Economic Area (EEA) funds to aid Hungary's reform initiatives.
This aligns with Magyar's vision for a closer alliance with the European Union and NATO, which Stoere views as beneficial for both Norway and Europe. Norway's foreign ministry has indicated an allocation of over 250 million euros, pending agreement on fund management.
