A tribunal in Maharashtra's Thane district has awarded a compensation of Rs 86.62 lakh to a 29-year-old man who endured life-altering injuries and 90 per cent functional disability in a road accident in 2021.

Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) Member R V Mohite ruled that the owner of a truck and Iffco-Tokio General Insurance Company Ltd are jointly responsible for compensating the claimant, Kunal Naresh Tandel, with the amount plus 9 per cent annual interest. This verdict was delivered on April 9, with documentation accessible on Thursday.

Appearing for the claimant, counsel Sachin Mane stated that the incident occurred on August 12, 2021, when Tandel, then a 24-year-old engineering student, was struck by a speeding truck while riding his motorcycle. The tribunal addressed the severe impact on Tandel's future, noting his substantial loss of working capacity and potential long-term complications.
