The Central Information Commission (CIC) has urged GST authorities to establish a formal status-tracking system for tax evasion complaints. This advisory comes as concerns grow over the lack of transparency and structured communication with complainants.
Information Commissioner Vinod Kumar Tiwari highlighted that the absence of such a mechanism fuels suspicion that cases may be settled or closed without proper consideration, forcing complainants to rely heavily on the RTI process.
The advisory comes in light of cases where complainants are left uninformed about the progress or results of their complaints. Establishing an online tracking facility could enhance transparency, public confidence, and reduce repetitive RTI applications.
