Kremlin Pressures Zelenskiy for Donbas Withdrawal
The Kremlin has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to withdraw troops from Donbas to end the 'hot phase' of the conflict. Zelenskiy remains firm on a diplomatic solution without yielding territory. Russia allegedly hardened peace terms, suggesting an ultimatum for withdrawal within two months.
The Kremlin has intensified pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, urging an immediate withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donbas region to arrest the 'hot phase' of the ongoing conflict. The recommendation was emphasized by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.
Peskov's statement followed Zelenskiy's acknowledgement of Russia's communication with the United States, allegedly warning of stricter peace terms should Ukrainian troops not vacate Donbas within two months. While Peskov refrained from confirming this timing, the call for retreat was clearly articulated.
Zelenskiy expressed skepticism regarding Russia's purported two-month ultimatum, reiterating his commitment to a diplomatic resolution. He insisted on maintaining current front lines as the basis for any ceasefire, underscoring Ukraine's preference for negotiation over territorial concessions.
