In a significant political shift, prominent Supreme Court advocate H S Phoolka has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a notable tenure with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Known for his steadfast commitment to representing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims, Phoolka's move marks a new chapter in his political career.
Phoolka, who entered the political arena with AAP in 2014, vied for a Lok Sabha seat from Ludhiana but was defeated. Nevertheless, he successfully secured an assembly seat from Dhaka in 2017 and briefly served as the leader of the opposition in Punjab's assembly.
His dedication to advocating for the anti-Sikh riots victims led him to resign from his opposition role, focusing instead on pursuing justice through the courts. Phoolka's transition to BJP is expected to bolster the party's legal acumen and political strategy.
