The Election Commission has taken decisive action following a violent incident at a poll training session in West Bengal. A block development officer in Nadia district has been suspended after a teacher sustained injuries during the session. The attack occurred at a school in Hanskhali block on March 27.
According to reports, the incident erupted after objections were raised against a government advertisement screened at the venue. Featuring Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the advertisement allegedly violated the Model Code of Conduct, prompting a teacher, Saikat Chattopadhyay, to protest. He claimed he was assaulted and threatened when he questioned the appropriateness of the ad.
The Election Commission criticized Sayantan Bhattacharyya, the officer overseeing the training programme, for his lack of diligence and ordered his immediate suspension. The Commission has demanded a compliance report on the execution of these directives from the state administration by April 1.
