A 48-year-old bank guard suffered injuries after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his double-barrelled gun in Talwara, authorities reported Monday.

Identified as Gurmail Singh from Maddipur village, the guard worked at a Punjab National Bank branch in Talwara. The mishap occurred around 1 pm.

After initial treatment at BBMB Hospital, he was transferred to Jalandhar for further care. Preliminary police investigations suggest it was an accidental discharge. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage and plan to record Singh's statement once he is stable. No foul play is suspected at this stage.
