U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres has expressed support for the aim of Donald Trump's Peace Board to finance the rebuilding of Gaza. However, he questioned the board's necessity beyond this task, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law and U.N. principles in any peace effort.

In an interview with Politico, Guterres stated that the Security Council has set clear objectives, and the U.N. is actively collaborating with the structures created by the Peace Board. He urged that efforts should be focused on international law and the U.N. Charter.

Additionally, Guterres called for lifting Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz and proposed U.N. involvement in plans to de-escalate regional tensions. He noted that he has not spoken with Trump since the war began, though he has communicated with others in the administration.
