A young chef working night shifts at a luxury hotel has been arrested for a series of burglaries in southwest Delhi, police announced on Friday. The accused, identified as Nilesh alias Nikesh, used his skills with a master key to bypass Chinese locks, making off with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2.69 lakh.
The investigation began when residents of RK Puram's Sector 1 reported missing valuables after returning from a wedding. CCTV footage caught a man struggling to open the gate but eventually accessing the house before leaving with stolen goods. His escape route was traced towards the Dwarka area, where the trail initially went cold.
Advanced surveillance techniques eventually led police to Nilesh, who, despite his hotel duties, committed the crimes during schedule gaps. The stolen items were concealed inside a scooter at his workplace, one of which was stolen, revealing his repeated criminal attempts in the area.
