China Urges End to Middle East Conflict Amid Global Impact Warnings

China has called for an immediate end to the ongoing war in the Middle East, citing potential disruptions to global energy, shipping, and trade. These concerns were expressed on Friday as the conflict, now lasting nearly three weeks, shows no signs of resolution.

In a statement, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China's foreign ministry, emphasized that historical precedent shows that force is not the solution. Instead, armed conflict only perpetuates new hatreds. Lin urged both sides of the Gulf conflict to stop fighting and ensure that energy channels remain open.

As the world reflects on the 23rd anniversary of the Iraq War, China's position gains additional weight. This conflict had longstanding repercussions, including the rise of the Islamic State. The current U.S.-Israeli conflict offers China a chance to position itself as a more reliable power. However, it also presents challenges, posing risks to China's manufacturing sector and the success of the Belt and Road initiative, while delaying crucial diplomatic engagements with the United States.
