Kashmir's chief priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has alleged that he was placed under house arrest, barring him from performing Friday congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid. The incident marks the third consecutive Friday during Ramadan where such restrictions were imposed, according to Farooq.

Farooq took to social media, sharing images of police vehicles and a large contingent of security forces stationed outside his residence. He claimed these measures were taken to prevent his sermon delivery at the historic mosque, situated in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

The cleric criticized the government's actions as indicative of fear, highlighting the significance of Jamia Masjid for the region's Muslims. He argued that these actions would neither erase the community's identity nor diminish their faith.
