BRUSSELS — In a decisive move, leaders from the European Union's 27 member countries have issued a call for de-escalation amid tensions in Iran and the broader region. This comes in response to mounting concerns about the ongoing conflict's potential ramifications on the global economy.
During their regular summit in Brussels, the European Council emphasized the urgent need for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prioritize the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure. The council underscored the necessity for all involved parties to fully respect international law.
In their collective written conclusions, the leaders called for an immediate moratorium on strikes, particularly targeting energy and water facilities, as a means to prevent further destabilization in the already volatile Middle East.
