A 38-year-old history-sheeter named Dharma Muneeswaran has been arrested in connection with the shocking rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl in Vilathikulam. CCTV footage and a suspicious motorcycle played pivotal roles in leading the police to the accused.
The tragic event came to light when the girl's body was discovered in a secluded area the day after her disappearance on March 10. Post-mortem reports confirmed gruesome sexual assault and fatal injuries. Initially registered as a missing case, it escalated to murder and POCSO charges after the body was found on the outskirts of Vedanatham village.
The case has drawn strong criticism, particularly from former BJP state president K Annamalai, who condemned the ruling DMK's handling of past offences by Muneeswaran. In judicial developments, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has intervened, insisting on a thorough investigation led by the Vilathikulam DSP, with a status report expected by April 2.
