A Mumbai court has decided not to discharge city Mayor and BJP corporator Ritu Tawde from a 2016 assault case involving two school teachers, citing victim statements as adequate for framing charges. The decision was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Y P Manathka on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in a city school on July 29, 2016, amidst a dispute over the transfer of a teacher reportedly battling cancer. Tawde allegedly entered the school and participated in a heated confrontation with the management over the transfer, ultimately leading to the alleged assault on the teachers. A First Information Report was filed on August 11, 2016.

Tawde contends her presence at the school was incidental and politically exploited by the complainant. The prosecution insists that witness statements clearly incriminate Tawde, emphasizing the seriousness of an assault within an educational institution. The court deemed the statements sufficient to proceed with charges against Tawde.
