Kaja Kallas: EU's United Front Against Trump's Divide Strategy
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has accused the U.S. of attempting to 'divide Europe' and opposing the EU. As transatlantic tensions escalate, particularly through trade disputes under Trump's administration, Kallas suggests Europe respond unitedly to retain equal power, emphasizing investment in their own defense industries.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas criticized the United States, noting that the U.S. seeks to 'divide Europe' and harbors dislike for the European Union. Kallas expressed these views in an interview with the Financial Times, highlighting ongoing discord in transatlantic relations.
President Donald Trump's administration has consistently targeted the EU, implementing tariffs on EU member countries and pursuing policies that could dismantle alliances like NATO. Recently, the U.S. launched several trade investigations, which could lead to new tariffs on the EU and other nations.
Kallas emphasizes that the EU should address Trump collectively rather than bilaterally, asserting the bloc's unified strength. She also advocates for Europe to enhance its defense capabilities, noting the necessity to purchase from America in the interim due to current limitations.
