A Delhi court has rejected the bail application of Sharukh Pathan, who is accused of pointing a firearm at a constable during the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. The decision was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, who heard Pathan’s plea based on the time already served in custody.
Pathan, currently detained at Tihar Jail, is implicated in multiple allegations stemming from the riots. These include pointing a gun at Head Constable Deepak Dahiya and an alleged conspiracy to murder a man named Rohit Shukla. His arrest was made on March 3, 2020, in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, following violent events in northeast Delhi that resulted in 53 fatalities and numerous injuries.
An FIR was lodged under relevant sections, including the Arms Act and the IPC, highlighting charges such as rioting, possessing a deadly weapon, obstructing public duties, and inciting enmity among groups. The court's detailed order on the bail plea remains awaited.
