Tragic Drone Strike Deepens Sudan's Wounds

An explosive-laden drone, attributed to Sudanese paramilitary forces, struck a secondary school and a healthcare center in southern Sudan on Wednesday, resulting in at least 17 deaths, mostly among schoolgirls, according to Dr. Musa al-Majeri of Douiem Hospital.

Dr. al-Majeri reported that at least 10 individuals were wounded, with three girls sustaining severe injuries; two underwent surgery, and one was transferred to Khartoum for further treatment. The Sudan Doctors Network initially reported the attack, which claimed two teachers and a healthcare worker among the victims.

This incident is part of Sudan's ongoing conflict, originating in April 2023, between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The UN estimates over 40,000 deaths, but aid organizations suggest the actual toll may be higher. Recent atrocities in Darfur highlight the conflict's severity, with alleged genocide committed by RSF forces under investigation by international bodies.
