Tension Lingers in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills After Deadly Clashes

The aftermath of a deadly clash in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills has left the region on edge, as the local administration extends the curfew for two more days. The skirmish erupted during a nomination process for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, leading to police firing that claimed two lives.

With no fresh violence reported, authorities remain cautious, reinforcing security in sensitive areas with personnel from additional state police forces and the Rapid Action Force. Five Army columns have been strategically deployed to offer support and ensure stability.

Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma confirmed increased security measures, including three Army columns stationed in Tura town and two in Chibinang, the site of the tragic incident. The administration warns of stringent action against anyone attempting to disturb the peace.
