Chhattisgarh Sets 2026 Deadline to End Naxalism, Plans Strategic Withdrawal of Forces

Chhattisgarh is set to mark a historic change as Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma announced the withdrawal of most paramilitary forces from the Bastar region by March 31, 2027, as part of efforts to end armed Naxalism by 2026.

Sharma detailed the strategy while discussing budget demands in the assembly, revealing allocations including Rs 7,721.01 crore for police and Rs 38 crore for rehabilitating surrendered extremists under central policy guidelines. A focus is also on modernizing police infrastructure with six new posts for a tech center in Nava Raipur.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel emphasized the importance of benefiting locals post-Naxalism and urged a special assembly session to commemorate peace. The assembly ultimately passed Sharma's budget proposals amidst motions of division.
