Retired Judge Falls Victim to 'Digital Arrest' Scam, Loses Crore

A retired district judge has lost over one crore rupees in a 'digital arrest' scam, police reported on Monday. The 69-year-old victim was deceived by cybercriminals claiming his phone number was linked to crimes such as human trafficking.

Residing in Malkagjri, the judge was coerced into transferring the substantial sum after receiving threatening calls pretending to be from law enforcement. The judge realized the scam days later and filed a complaint.

Police stated that fear tactics often succeed in such scams, even against individuals with legal expertise. Investigations are currently in progress to apprehend the perpetrators.
