India's Call for a Future-Ready Commonwealth

India's Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, urged for meaningful reforms in the Commonwealth to ensure it benefits all member nations, particularly emphasizing the Global South's needs. Singh's call came during the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) in London, attended by foreign ministers from 56 member countries under the theme 'Commonwealth at a Moment of Strategic Opportunity.'

Despite the backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions, including US-Israel actions in Iran, the discussions focused on the Commonwealth's role in fostering impactful solutions amid the world's dynamic landscape. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted the importance of unity in these uncertain times. The gathering also underlined the significance of empowering women and integrating the digital infrastructure for economic development.

In his remarks, the Commonwealth Secretary-General reiterated the organization's role as a bridge between diverse global regions and economies, aiming to enhance connectivity and resilience. Minister Singh's visit coincides with Commonwealth Day celebrations led by King Charles III, further cementing India's commitment to engaging with the Commonwealth's network of nations and particularly supporting its smaller states.
