A man and seven of his family members face legal action after being accused of giving his wife triple talaq and harassing her over dowry issues, according to officials.
The FIR was lodged following a complaint by 21-year-old Jannat Bano against her husband, Dr. Zainul Abedin, and his family at the city police station. The events unfolded when Bano accused Dr. Abedin of taking Rs 10 lakh under the pretense of starting a hospital and another Rs 25 lakh, claiming it was a bribe for a government job.
After further demands for money and an alleged physical assault, the situation escalated when Dr. Abedin pronounced the now-banned triple talaq in front of witnesses, prompting police intervention. Despite the alleged harassment and financial exploitation, the marriage was initially solemnized after a compromise was reached over fake jewelry presented at the wedding.
