Epic Justice: Epstein Estate to Settle $35M Case
A U.S. judge has given preliminary approval for Jeffrey Epstein's estate to pay up to $35 million to settle a lawsuit alleging his advisers aided in his sex trafficking. The agreement, set to finalize in September, aims to resolve claims against Epstein's former lawyer and accountant.
A U.S. judge gave preliminary approval Tuesday for Jeffrey Epstein's estate to pay up to $35 million to settle a class action lawsuit accusing two of his advisers of aiding his sex trafficking operations.
On February 19, Boies Schiller Flexner, representing Epstein's victims, announced the agreement, which U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian deemed fair. A hearing is set for September 16 to consider final approval. The lawsuit, filed against Epstein's former lawyer Darren Indyke and ex-accountant Richard Kahn, co-executors of his estate, aims for closure by 2024.
Despite the deal, lawyers for Indyke and Kahn haven't admitted any misconduct. Epstein, who died by suicide in August 2019, left an estate that also directed $121 million to victim restitution and $49 million in additional settlements.
