Ravi Shankar Prasad to Lead New Lok Sabha Privileges Committee

The Lok Sabha has taken a significant step by forming its Privileges Committee, with former law minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad appointed as chairperson. Speaker Om Birla announced the appointment, nominating 14 other MPs to the committee as detailed in an official notification.

This committee is tasked with examining potential breaches of privilege in the House or any of its committees as referred by the House or Speaker. It will analyze facts in each case, determine breaches, and make recommendations accordingly. This marks the inaugural committee of the 18th Lok Sabha, established in 2024.

Among the committee's members are political voices from BJP, Congress, DMK, TMC, Shiv Sena, and SP. However, Congress MP Manickam Tagore confirmed his inability to attend meetings due to a suspension incurred during the recent budget session for 'unruly behavior.' The next phase of the budget session is set to commence on March 9 and end on April 2.
