The Jammu and Kashmir Government announced the successful provision of functional tap water connections to approximately 15.6 lakh households across the Union Territory as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with 3.61 lakh households still awaiting coverage. The initiative reflects a significant stride toward achieving universal water access by 2024.
Srinagar and Ganderbal districts have attained full coverage, according to Minister Javed Ahmad Rana. However, districts like Jammu and Rajouri still have a substantial number of households without these connections. The Union Territory is working continuously to enhance water supply under various schemes, including AMRUT 2.0.
Efforts in Kulgam and Yaripora are particularly noteworthy, where initiatives are underway to address water supply issues, estimated to be completed by 2026-27. These projects are expected to augment water infrastructure and service levels considerably, benefitting thousands of households, the minister elaborated.
