An independent United Nations investigation has alleged potential genocide by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during their capture of al-Fashir in Sudan, targeting non-Arab communities including the Zaghawa and the Fur. The report documents mass killings and systematic sexual violence as part of this devastating assault.
Following an 18-month siege, the RSF overtook the city, reportedly executing a planned and organized operation aimed at annihilating specific ethnic groups. Thousands were killed or raped, with evidence suggesting the crimes were coordinated and publicly endorsed by senior RSF leadership.
Despite the UN sharing its findings with the Sudanese government and seeking dialogue with RSF, there has been no response. The RSF has dismissed previous accusations as enemy propaganda while launching counterclaims. However, eyewitness accounts of targeted ethnic violence testify otherwise.
