Kerala Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar reported over 30,000 drug-related cases registered last year as part of the state's 'D-Hunt' initiative, targeting drug abuse and trafficking. He emphasized that this increase reflects enhanced policing efforts rather than a rise in drug activity, countering allegations that Kerala has become a drug hub.
The 'D-Hunt' campaign involves a coordinated effort between police and excise departments to combat both supply and demand in the drug trade. While acknowledging a shift towards synthetic drugs, Chandrasekhar highlighted preventive measures such as awareness programs and the PODA initiative, involving 21 companies and over 1,000 employees pledging against drug use.
Chandrasekhar also stressed the importance of mutual respect between the police and the public, with officers instructed to conduct themselves with restraint and courtesy. Despite occasional misconduct, the Kerala Police generally maintain professional standards, earning public praise, especially during significant events. The DGP assured ongoing efforts to tackle criminal elements and uphold law and order.
