Federal Action Initiated for Potomac River Protection After Major Sewage Leak
President Trump has directed federal authorities to safeguard the Potomac River after a significant sewer pipe collapse in Washington, D.C. Maryland's Governor criticized the administration for inaction. The leak has raised public health concerns due to detected pathogens, prompting Trump's directive involving FEMA and federal oversight.
The federal government will intervene to shield the Potomac River following a considerable sewer pipe collapse in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump announced. This decision follows criticisms from Maryland's governor accusing the administration of negligence in the matter.
The January 19 collapse of a sewer line in Montgomery County resulted in over 240 million gallons of wastewater spilling into the Potomac, raising public health alerts due to high levels of fecal bacteria and disease-causing pathogens.
With pressure mounting, Trump has tasked the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with coordinating the response. Simultaneously, the EPA has pledged to continue oversight, collaborating with DC Water to manage the crisis.
