High-Stakes Geneva Talks: Ukraine's Future on the Negotiating Table
Peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. will focus on territory and other key issues in Geneva this week. With mounting pressure on Kyiv and Russia's demands for the Donbas region, the negotiations will be critical in addressing the ongoing conflict and potential post-war arrangements.
On Monday, the Kremlin announced that 'main issues,' including sensitive territorial discussions, will be central to the upcoming peace talks on Ukraine in Geneva this week.
The negotiations, involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, are set for Tuesday and Wednesday amidst intensified U.S. pressure on Kyiv and Russian demands for control over the Donbas region. Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to President Vladimir Putin, will lead the Russian delegation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that a broader range of topics would be covered, including territorial concerns and military intelligence led by Igor Kostyukov, alongside Kirill Dmitriev discussing economic matters. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to resolve what he increasingly terms a 'senseless bloodbath,' despite significant disagreements on territorial and military presence issues.
