Clarifying Security Roles: No ICE Agents with Team USA in Milan
No ICE agents are accompanying the Team USA delegation at the Milan Olympics. The US Olympic Committee clarified this following protests sparked by false reports. Instead, Homeland Security Investigations has a minor role. The Italian interior minister refuted concerns, attributing them to misinformation.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Nicole Deal, Chief of Security for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, confirmed that no U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are present to secure Team USA in Milan.
This statement comes amid protests in Milan against supposed ICE involvement, sparked by reports that were quickly dismissed as unfounded by Italy's interior minister.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will maintain a minor role at the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service joint operations center in Milan, focusing solely on information sharing rather than direct security duties.
