Latvia Investigates Human Trafficking Ties in Epstein Case
Latvia is investigating potential human trafficking connections related to late U.S. offender Jeffrey Epstein. The probe focuses on Latvian nationals' recruitment for exploitation in the U.S., following document releases mentioning local models and agencies. President Rinkevics initiated the inquiry, aligning with similar actions by Lithuania.
Latvian authorities have initiated a criminal investigation into possible human trafficking links following the release of documents associated with the late U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The documents mention Latvian models and agencies, prompting police action in the Baltic state.
The investigation, led by the Organized Crime Bureau and prosecutors, is focused on the alleged recruitment of Latvian nationals for sexual exploitation in the United States. Authorities have urged potential victims to report their cases.
President Edgars Rinkevics pushed for the inquiry following broadcaster reports that the Epstein documents contained passport and travel information of several Latvian women. Meanwhile, Eriks Neisans, head of the implicated Natalie modeling agency, denied any wrongdoing. As Latvia turns up the heat on this matter, neighboring Lithuania is conducting its own investigation into human trafficking.
