The Estonian Tax and Customs Board has taken decisive action against a container ship suspected of engaging in smuggling activities.

The vessel, known as the Baltic Spirit, was detained by authorities after Estonia's special police unit, K-Commando, conducted a boarding operation. It is under national supervision pending a thorough customs inspection.

Originally en route from Ecuador to St. Petersburg, Russia, the Bahamas-flagged ship was found anchored near Tallinn. Authorities confirmed that the ship is not part of a Russian shadow fleet and is not affected by current European Union sanctions.
