Security Forces Enter Kurdish Northeast Syria Amid Tense Curfew

Security forces linked to Syria's Interior Ministry have been deployed in Kurdish-dominated northeastern Syria. This move is part of a strategic agreement between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The convoy of security forces arrived in the city of Qamishli, in al-Hasakah province, after entering on Monday. Their mission is to secure state-affiliated institutions such as civil registry offices and airports. The deployment has resulted in a visible increase in security, with streets largely empty due to an SDF-imposed curfew.

Some locals welcomed the forces, expressing hope for unity and change while others remain concerned about potential reprisals. This development occurs amid lingering tensions, as both Kurdish and Arab communities hold differing views on the presence of Syrian government forces in the region.
