Lithuanian Arts Figures Caught in Epstein Web: Investigation Launched

Lithuanian prosecutors have commenced an investigation into potential human trafficking following the release of U.S. documents related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which include mention of prominent Lithuanians. The prosecutor general's office emphasizes that only a pre-trial investigation will establish an objective inquiry and facilitate international cooperation.

President Gitanas Nauseda has called for a thorough and principled law enforcement probe into the allegations. Reports by Lithuanian media indicate that several local models and artists are named in the documents released by the U.S. Justice Department last week.

In a significant development, some performers have decided to boycott the Midsummer Vilnius arts festival, promoted by Valdas Petreikis, who is alleged in the documents to have received payments from Epstein. Petreikis has denied any wrongdoing, claiming ignorance of Epstein's crimes at the time and has withdrawn from arts promotions in response to the controversy. Lithuanian authorities are currently evaluating the newly available information and coordinating with international partners.
