A series of assaults in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district led to a violent outbreak, resulting in injuries to seven police officers and two villagers. The violence erupted after an accused on bail and his associates attacked four individuals, one being a witness in a past temple desecration case.
The enraged mob retaliated by torching over half a dozen homes belonging to members of a minority community in Dutkaiyya village, inciting further unrest. Emergency personnel were dispatched to manage the chaos, employing force to disperse the crowd, with authorities calling for communal harmony and vigilance against rumors.
The unrest traces back to communal tensions from 2024, after a temple desecration incident involving then-minor Qureshi, now implicated in recent violent activities. Heavy police deployment remains in place with ongoing appeals for peace among residents in the affected area.
