Delhi Court Convicts Man in 2018 Robbery and Attempted Murder Case

A man involved in a 2018 robbery incident has been convicted for attempt to murder, despite not wielding the weapon himself. The Delhi court ruled that Sona Lal shared a common intent with his co-accused to commit the offenses.

Additional Sessions Judge Sumedh Kumar Sethi ruled that although Sona Lal did not personally use the weapon, the prosecution effectively established the common intention to commit the crimes, leading to his conviction under IPC Section 307 and 394, read with Section 34. The court emphasized that the absence of recovered items or independent witnesses did not undermine the case.

The incident unfolded when Sona Lal and others forcibly took the victim, Mohammad Afroj, to a secluded area, robbing and inflicting serious injury. Despite not using the knife himself, the medical evidence revealed grievous wounds on Afroj, affirming the intent to murder during the robbery.
