EC Rejects Madhyamik Admit Card Proposal for Voter Verification

The Election Commission (EC) has declined a proposal from the West Bengal chief electoral officer to recognize the madhyamik admit card—class 10 exam proof—as valid identification for voter verification in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. An official confirmed the decision on Thursday.

In a formal communication, the EC informed the state CEO that, after careful review, the madhyamik admit card was not found on the list of approved documents outlined for SIR procedures. As such, it does not meet the criteria set for validation, reaffirmed the commission.

The directive, following instructions set forth on October 27, 2025, underscores the EC's stance that the madhyamik admit card cannot be authorized as proof for identification. The poll panel has communicated this decision to relevant state authorities, officials report.
