Trade Tensions: Trump's Claims and India's Economic Concerns

The Congress party has launched a critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government following former US President Donald Trump's repeated assertions about halting the India-Pakistan conflict through trade negotiations.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted that while India was expected to host the Quad Summit in November 2025, plans have since changed. Additionally, what was once anticipated as an early trade deal with the US has evolved into a complex issue, as exports to the US decline and jobs are affected in India.

Trump reiterated his claim of averting a potential nuclear clash between India and Pakistan during a television interview, stating that trade leverage was instrumental in negotiating peace. Meanwhile, India maintains that peace with Pakistan was achieved through direct military dialogue, challenging Trump's narrative.
