In a startling development, a body buried along the riverbank in Rendadi village re-emerged in a nearby lake, leading to a protest by locals demanding a proper burial ground. The villagers, lacking an official cemetery, have been burying their dead along the river.
The Sholinghur Tehsildar, R Selvi, stated that the village, home to less than 400 families predominantly from the Arunthathiyar community, has now been temporarily allocated land at a higher elevation to prevent similar incidents. The problem arose due to the recent heavy rains in the region.
Authorities are actively seeking permanent land for a cemetery and have assured the community that, if necessary, private land will be acquired. A resolution is anticipated within weeks, solving the critical issue faced by the small village.
